It is home to one of only two regional branch libraries in the county, and to the San Juan Unified School District, one of the highest rated districts in the nation. Many treasures are to be found in Carmichael, such as the rare hybrids of camellias, dogwood, and other flora in the Jensen Botanical Gardens, or the exhibits of flora and fauna at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. The community's riches include an 18-hole golf course, one of the best public courses anywhere, and Ancil Hoffman Park's 85-acre nature study area and equestrian trails.
